Kremer and Hart designed it, and E. M. Campfield of Findlay served as contractor. It measures about sixty by one hundred twenty feet and rests on a rock-faced stone foundation. The first floor is rusticated, the second floor is smooth stone with pilastered corners and arched windows, and a green ceramic tile hipped roof carries pedimented dormers and an octagonal clock tower. A statue of Justice that once topped the dome was removed during the twentieth century. The building replaced the county's second courthouse, used from 1851, which was judged cramped and somewhat unsafe after a 1892 grand jury recommendation. State legislation in 1893 allowed bonds to be issued. Construction began in July 1893, and the total cost reached $259,481.21. It has served as the courthouse since and is described as one of Ohio's finest nineteenth-century courthouses.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (built 1893-1894)","architect_builder":"Kremer and Hart (architects); E.
