Its centrally located chimneys are described as uncommon in southern use. The house was also moved on wagons about 1855 by Mark Henry Crowder.","narrative":"Mark Hall is a plantation house near Greenville, Meriwether County, Georgia, built in 1852 in the Greek Revival style as a Raised Cottage. It was first constructed at Stinson, now Durand, as a wedding present for a daughter of Dr. James Winslow Stinson, a physician and plantation owner. About 1855 Mark Henry Crowder bought it, moved it on wagons about three miles, and rebuilt it on its present site. The weatherboarded house has a hip roof, two centrally placed chimneys, and a temple-form portico with four square Doric columns. Its plan placed three rooms on each side of a central hall, with additional rooms and storage on the ground level. Later changes include an enclosed side porch, a bricked-in front underside, and interior woodwork brought from an Atlanta church. Original outbuildings include a log smokehouse and a hand-hewn barn used as a cotton gin. It was listed for its architecture, as a rare example of its type.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific dates 1852, 1855)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival Raised Cottage","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as excellent condition and occupied as a private residence; the form notes alterations, and restoration began in 1965.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.923486-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/73000629.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208973","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141781716"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/meriwether-county/mark-hall-73000629/"}
