It measures 80 feet long and uses the Long truss design, a panel type with crossed single members between posts forming a series of kingposts with counter braces. Built around 1880, it is one of only 22 covered bridges remaining in Georgia. The Long truss was introduced in 1830 by Colonel Stephen H. Long, first for railroad use. The bridge is attributed to Horace King, born a slave in South Carolina in 1807 and freed in 1848, who became Georgia's best-known bridge builder. King built across the Chattahoochee at Columbus and worked widely in west Georgia, later settling near LaGrange around 1874. County-owned, the bridge was described as in fair condition, unaltered, on its original site and still in use.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (c.1880)","architect_builder":"Probably Horace King","architectural_style":"Long truss (panel type with crossed single members between posts, kingposts with counter braces)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Owned by Meriwether County; condition rated fair, unaltered, on its original site, and still in use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.581806-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/73000627.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73000627/402e77718c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73000627/402e77718c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Saverivers","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:White_Oak_Creek_Covered_Bridge_2013.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Saverivers</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:White_Oak_Creek_Covered_Bridge_2013.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208991","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Oak_Creek_Covered_Bridge","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q58904079"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/meriwether-county/white-oak-creek-covered-bridge-73000627/"}
