It survives in remarkably original condition with significant seventeenth and early eighteenth century interior features. It was also the home of Brigadier General Eleazer Brooks, a leading Revolutionary War officer and legislator.","narrative":"Built in 1695 by Daniel Brooks for his new bride, this house on Brooks Road in Lincoln began as a two and one half story frame dwelling with one room per floor. About 1700 a two-story, two-room addition created the present five-bay facade, and around 1800 a two-story ell and a center entrance with a country Federal surround were added. Inside, exposed chamfered beams, gunstock corner posts, wide pegged floorboards and early iron latches and hinges survive. The house was listed as the ancestral home of the Brooks family, who owned it for over 230 years and ran a tannery, tavern and brick kiln nearby. Bricks from the family brickyard were used in its walls and chimneys. A later owner, Brigadier General Eleazer Brooks, was the area's highest-ranking Revolutionary officer, served in the Provincial Congress and General Court, and left letters documenting the war. The family sold the house in 1929.","period_of_significance":"17th and 18th centuries (specific dates 1695, 1700, c. 1800)","architect_builder":"Daniel Brooks (builder)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Private residence in good condition, occupied; altered over time but on its original site.
