Front Street was an important residential and commercial district in the eighteenth century, and many houses of the same period still line it. The brick front facade is laid in Flemish bond and topped by a steep gable roof, with a frame modillion cornice, dormers front and rear, and three-flue chimneys. Inside, seven fireplaces survive, one with a frame mantel and Wall of Troy trim and 18th century blue Dutch tiles, along with a castiron fireback. Other original features include panelled chimney walls, panelled doors, original hinges, and spiral stairs between the second and fourth floors. Irish was a member of the Carpenters Company of Philadelphia from 1762 to 1769 and was an owner or co-owner of an ironworks in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The house is regarded as typical of its period.","period_of_significance":"1763-1769","architect_builder":"Nathaniel Irish (builder)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present owners are restoring the house; the document describes it as in excellent condition with its described features intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:28.848043-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/72001160.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/72001160/2c7301b51d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/72001160/2c7301b51d-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Smallbones","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:704_S_Front_St_Philly.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Smallbones</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:704_S_Front_St_Philly.JPG"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"72001172","name":"Southwark District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/pennsylvania/southwark-district-72001172/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71997036","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Irish_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6969692"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/philadelphia/irish-nathaniel-house-72001160/"}
