It stands on its original site.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is one of the last remaining mid-eighteenth century houses in Concord Township that retains much of its architectural integrity. It cites its Flemish bond brickwork, early Georgian paneling and large windows as exemplary features. It also notes the active civic role of the Newlin family and later owner Micajah Speakman.","narrative":"Built in 1742 by Nicholas Newlin, this brick house in what later became Concordville is laid in Flemish bond on three sides above a stone water table, while the north elevation is of random fieldstone. Its rectangular plan is divided into two sections with unevenly spaced windows, and both gable ends carry chimneys. The first-floor rooms retain early Georgian paneling, including a floor-to-ceiling cupboard beside a fireplace in the southeast chamber. The house is regarded as one of the last mid-eighteenth century houses in Concord Township to keep much of its architectural integrity, and its interior and exterior features are considered exemplary of Chester County building of the period. Its later owners included Micajah Speakman, who bought it in 1751. Its original occupant, Nicholas Newlin, was a Friend who held local civic roles, and his descendants remained active in the Township and County.","period_of_significance":"1742","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Georgian","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Altered, with a porch, dormers and a two-story brick addition on the west side; the one-story frame addition was removed.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:29.702344-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/72001118.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/72001118/e265b47268-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/72001118/e265b47268-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":null,"credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NicholasNewlinHouseConcordPA.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Unknown author</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NicholasNewlinHouseConcordPA.JPG"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"73001624","name":"Concordville Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/pennsylvania/concordville-historic-district-73001624/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71995123","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Newlin_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7025964"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/delaware-county/newlin-nicholas-house-72001118/"}
