It was originally at 233 Green Street and was moved in 1976 to 519 Ramsey Street.","why_significant":"The side-hall plan and fine Federal detailing show the urban sophistication of early nineteenth-century Fayetteville. With the Kyle House, it was one of the last two private residences on Green Street, once the city's most elegant residential avenue. It is also said to have been Fayetteville's first hospital.","narrative":"Built by Simeon Belden shortly after the great Fayetteville fire of May 1831, this two-and-one-half-story late Federal house has weatherboard siding, a hip roof over a two-story porch, and a Palladian entrance with sidelights and a fanlight. Inside, a side-hall plan, Doric pilasters, molded plaster cornices and simple Federal mantels survive. Later owners included Dr. Benjamin W. Robinson, who took in boarding patients, so the house is said to have been the city's first hospital, and druggist Henry Ruffin Horne, who bought it in 1885. Its significance rests on its architecture and its place on Green Street, once the city's most elegant residential avenue. Few private homes remained there among the commercial buildings. In 1976 the house was donated to the city and moved three blocks north to Ramsey Street, where it sits among other nineteenth-century structures. Officials judged that the move would not harm its architectural character.","period_of_significance":"19th Century","architect_builder":"Simeon Belden (builder)","architectural_style":"Late Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Originally a private residence in excellent condition. It was donated to the city and moved about three blocks north to 519 Ramsey Street in 1976 because commercial development was taking over the original site. A 1978 grant application lists rehabilitation as the project objective.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:58:58.244032-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/2/7198/47719802/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/72000955.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/72000955/e48dd43cbd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/72000955/e48dd43cbd-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Apc106","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Belden_Horne_House_(2).JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Apc106</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Belden_Horne_House_(2).JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47719802","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belden-Horne_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18148428"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/cumberland-county/belden-horne-house-72000955/"}
