Built in 1797-98 on a rectangular central hall plan, it has common bond brick walls, a gabled roof with stepped gable ends, a five-bay west front and a small Greek Revival portico at the entrance. A wing extends south from the main block. Abraham Ten Broeck, who lived from 1734 to 1810, built the house while serving as Mayor of Albany. His career included the Colonial Assembly, the Continental Congress, command of county militia and service at Saratoga in 1777. After his death the house became a boys' school, and Harmanus Bleecker was among its pupils. James King bought it in the early 1830s, and Thomas Olcott purchased it in 1848. Four generations of the Olcott family lived there until they gave it to the Albany County Historical Association in 1948. It now serves as a museum with several restored period rooms.","period_of_significance":"18th and 19th centuries (specific date 1797-98)","architect_builder":"Abraham Ten Broeck","architectural_style":"Greek Revival portico on a brick central hall house with stepped gable ends","criteria":[],"status_note":"Operated as a museum open to the public at specified hours; condition marked good, with several restored period rooms.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:39.063359-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/71000522.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/71000522/d5bb7383da-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/71000522/d5bb7383da-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"UpstateNYer","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TenBroeckMansion.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">UpstateNYer</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TenBroeckMansion.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"88001445","name":"Clinton Avenue Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/clinton-avenue-historic-district-88001445/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75316353","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Broeck_Mansion","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7699158"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/albany-county/ten-broeck-mansion-71000522/"}
