It is a fine example of Greek Revival design with exceptional interior craftsmanship. It was continuously occupied by the descendants of Barrington King, son of Roswell founder Roswell King.","narrative":"Barrington Hall, at 60 Marietta Street in Roswell, Georgia, is a Greek Revival temple-style house built between 1839 and 1842. Willis Ball, a Connecticut architect, designed it, and the lumber was cut and seasoned for two years before construction began. A Doric columned portico surrounds three sides, a hipped roof carries a small widow's walk, and a wide central hall leads to a staircase through an arch on two Doric columns. The dining room and parlor mantelpieces copy a plate from Asher Benjamin's 1835 Practical House Carpenter. The house was built for Barrington King, son of Roswell King, who chose the town site in 1837. It occupies the highest point in the area and forms part of the original town plan. King descendants lived in it continuously, and many original furnishings remain in place. Boxwood gardens designed by an English landscape architect add to the setting. At the time of listing it stood on about six acres and was open to visitors.","period_of_significance":"1837-1842","architect_builder":"Willis Ball, a Connecticut architect","architectural_style":"Greek Revival temple house","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in good condition, little altered, on its original site, and open to the public since 1948 while serving as a private residence at the time of nomination.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.172205-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/71000275.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/71000275/188bab55ca-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/71000275/188bab55ca-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 2.5","author":"Galen Parks Smith (Gsmith)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barrington_Hall_North.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Galen Parks Smith (Gsmith)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 2.5</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barrington_Hall_North.JPG"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"74000682","name":"Roswell Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/georgia/roswell-historic-district-74000682/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208090","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrington_Hall_(Roswell,_Georgia)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4863668"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/fulton-county/barrington-hall-71000275/"}
