It served as a central meeting place and garrison house. Francis Faulkner, a later occupant, was a Revolutionary militia leader, town clerk and delegate to the state constitutional convention, and the garrison room became Acton's courthouse in 1779.","narrative":"Faulkner Homestead sits on a knoll on High Street in Acton, Massachusetts. Its main section is a two-storey frame house with clapboard siding, built in 1707 around a central chimney with four rooms. A north ell was added in 1774 and may be the remains of a house built in 1738 and moved to the site; an eastern ell and sheds followed about 1840. Ephraim Jones, a clothier who ran a fulling mill on Great Brook and did much of his cloth work at home, built the house. It was the largest in the new community and was apparently planned as a meeting place, with heavy framing in the Hall suggesting use as a garrison house. Ammi Ruhamah Faulkner bought it in 1742, and his descendants lived there for about two hundred years. His son Francis Faulkner resigned a royal militia commission in 1775, led local militia to the Concord Fight, served as town clerk, and held court in the old garrison room after 1779.","period_of_significance":"18th Century (specific date 1707)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in good condition, altered early, on its original site; in use as a museum and occupied.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:54.193375-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/8/7957/63795708/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/71000080.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/71000080/dbe3cfb689-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/71000080/dbe3cfb689-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Faulkner_House,_front,_South_Acton_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Faulkner_House,_front,_South_Acton_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63795708","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faulkner_House_(Acton,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5438127"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/faulkner-homestead-71000080/"}
