The combination is described as an outstanding piece of architecture that received an Award of Merit from the Builders Survey of Texas. It is also tied to Michael Erskine, a county chief justice and cattle drive leader.","narrative":"Erskine House No. 1, also called Hollamon House, is a two-story frame residence on North Austin Street in Seguin. It is really two houses joined together. Captain Sedy built a four-room concrete structure in 1855. In 1867, Dr. Benjamin Lea had a second house brought from Prairie Lea, pulled about thirty miles by oxen on wooden wheels, and connected the two with galleries. The main block has a gable roof and an inset double gallery with five simple posts and molded capitals. Windows are double sash with nine-over-six lights. One-story additions to the west incorporate a stuccoed limestone building that appears to be an original outbuilding. The house had nine fireplaces and four chimneys. After 1870 it became associated with Michael Erskine, a Guadalupe County chief justice who led the first cattle drive from the county to California. The combined house won an Award of Merit from the Builders Survey of Texas, and its plans are recorded in the Library of Congress.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific date 1855)","architect_builder":"Captain Sedy (built the original four-room concrete structure, 1855); Dr. Benjamin Lea (moved and attached the second part, 1867)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in good condition, unaltered, on its original site, and in use as a private residence at the time of nomination.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:18.979336-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/7/9722/40972207/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/70000750.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/70000750/c4f6ce7042-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/70000750/c4f6ce7042-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 4.0","author":"Larry D.
