Built about 1822, it rises two stories with a five-bay front, a central-hall plan and a rear wing that gives the building an L-shaped footprint. The brick is laid in American bond, and the gabled roof has stepped Waterford gables at each end of the main block. Stone window labels and sills, twelve-over-twelve sash upstairs and a doorway with sidelights and a fanlight are notable details. James McCurdy, a prosperous sheep farmer and son of the first settler in Dansville, erected the house on the site of the town's first dwelling. It was listed because it is a landmark in the area, is closely linked to Dansville's early history, and has survived largely intact as an example of an early nineteenth-century western New York farmhouse, although repair work is needed.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (c. 1822)","architect_builder":"James McCurdy (d. 1864), builder/owner","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in good condition, altered, on its original site; the form notes repair work is needed and the interior is not open to the public.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:39.996411-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/70000422.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/70000422/5b581b31ff-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/70000422/5b581b31ff-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PIONEER_FARM,_DANSVILLE,_LIVINGSTON_COUNTY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318684","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7196685"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/pioneer-farm-70000422/"}
