The main block measures roughly 90 by 18 feet, with two short one-room wings projecting north at each end to form a shallow U. Covered verandas run along both long sides. The walls are two feet thick, and three feet at the southeast end. Originally they were whitewashed with lime, the roof was tile, and the floors were packed earth later replaced with wood. The house was restored in the 1920s, when brick fireplaces, chimneys and tile floors were installed and several windows were added on the southwest front. Gonzalez's daughter inherited the property in 1866, and it became known as the Ramirez adobe. It is recognized as a good example of a restored, medium-sized adobe townhouse of the Mexican period and is now used as offices.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Rafael Gonzalez (builder)","architectural_style":"Adobe townhouse of the Mexican period","criteria":[],"status_note":"Restored in the 1920s; in good condition and used for offices.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:32.02002-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/70000149_NHL.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/70000149/77c87d4486-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/70000149/77c87d4486-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Ymblanter","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rafael_Gonzalez_House2.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Ymblanter</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rafael_Gonzalez_House2.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123858086","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_Gonz%C3%A1lez_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7282155"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/santa-barbara-county/gonzalez-rafael-house-70000149/"}
