Its style is described as \"American\" or \"Steamboat\" Gothic, though the ornate gingerbread trim that once decorated it has been removed. The house was listed largely for this architecture, since it is one of a very few Steamboat Gothic buildings remaining in a large Ohio city. It also carries a personal history. Its owner, Henry Archer Langdon, served with the 79th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, from April 1862 to May 1865 and was with General Sherman in the campaign through Georgia. After the war he returned to Columbia and practiced medicine at this address until his death in 1876. At the time of the nomination the building was in fair condition, was owned by a preservation association, and was slated for restoration.","period_of_significance":"19th Century","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"\"American\" or \"Steamboat\" Gothic","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition listed as fair; the ornate gingerbread trim has been removed.
