It has a front-gable form and a three-stage bell tower.","why_significant":"The nomination argues local significance under Criterion C for architecture as a remarkably intact frame vernacular church. It shows the simple, economical character small rural congregations favored in the late nineteenth century. It is also one of the few largely intact frame churches left in the county, built by a small congregation that practiced independently of a larger denomination.","narrative":"Morrisville Christian Church is a small frame church on Church Street in Morrisville, built in 1872-1873 by members of a congregation founded by farmer and preacher William Gaston Clements. The narrow, front-gabled building is three bays wide and four bays deep, with weatherboard siding, original six-over-six windows and a three-stage bell tower holding the main entrance. Inside, the original wood floors, beaded-board walls, decorated nave ceiling and floor plan survive largely intact. The congregation belonged to a movement that split from the Methodists in the 1790s, and it practiced full-immersion baptism until it closed in the 1960s. The building is valued as a remarkably intact example of vernacular church design, with only the bell tower hinting at more elaborate styles. It is one of the few frame churches in Wake County to survive so complete, and it reflects Morrisville's first period of growth after the Civil War. Recent work in 2011 added a foundation, bathrooms and landscaping.","period_of_significance":"1872-1873","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"No style (vernacular front-gable church)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Church closed in the 1960s; the form lists the current use as a community center, with 2011 work including a new foundation, bathrooms, parking area and garden.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:53.914679-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/87/7185/47718587/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/12000913.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/12000913/734298b4f6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/12000913/734298b4f6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"sw23","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Morrisville_Christian_Church_2013-09-21_18-01-52.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">sw23</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Morrisville_Christian_Church_2013-09-21_18-01-52.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47718587","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morrisville_Christian_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q20858943"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/wake-county/morrisville-christian-church-12000913/"}
