It is also significant in social history because the house served as a meeting place for the Kakiat Quaker community during Jonah Seaman's ownership.","narrative":"Set on a wooded 16.74-acre parcel on Ladentown Road in Pomona, Rockland County, this story-and-a-half frame house grew in two main phases. The earliest section, built around 1799, has a timber frame, exposed beams and wattle-and-daub walls typical of New World Dutch practice, together with English-influenced features such as a three-bay facade and a jambed fireplace. Around 1850 the house was extended westward to a five-bay, center-entrance plan with restrained Greek Revival detailing, and a basement kitchen with a hearth and bake oven was added. A rear addition and 1930s renovations followed. The grounds hold a stone-lined well, orchard remains, stone walls and a small Seaman family burying ground. Jonah Seaman owned the property by 1799, and local Quakers of the Kakiat Meeting gathered in the house before a meetinghouse was built. Abram J. Knapp and his family later farmed the land into the early twentieth century. The house retains a high degree of integrity.","period_of_significance":"c. 1799-c. 1937","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Other: Vernacular; Mid-19th Century: Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the current owners are descendants of the family that bought it in the 1920s.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:47.855271-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/12000311.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/12000311/86add732eb-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/12000311/86add732eb-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ, M.D.","credit_html":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ, M.D., CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SEAMAN-KNAPP_HOUSE,_POMONA,_ROCKLAND_COUNTY_MY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321500","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaman%E2%80%93Knapp_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137271716"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/rockland-county/seaman-knapp-house-12000311/"}
