E. and J. Randolph Mott, with a small saddlebag house behind it.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is an excellent local example of both the Queen Anne style and the Queen Anne house type in Columbus. Its asymmetrical plan and massing, wraparound porch, sawn ornament and large stair hall with open-well stair show the style. The interior retains ornate mantels, moldings and a decorative spindle screen.","narrative":"Built in 1892 by A. E. and J. Randolph Mott, this two-story Queen Anne house sits in Rose Hill, a neighborhood north of downtown Columbus, Georgia. It has an asymmetrical plan, projecting bays, a wraparound porch, scroll-sawn brackets and bargeboard, and a pressed-metal shingle roof. Asbestos shingles added around 1950 cover the original weatherboard. Inside, a large stair hall with an open-well staircase, carved mantels, decorative tile and a spindle-work screen survive largely intact. A two-room saddlebag house stands at the rear. The Motts sold the house after several years, and for much of the twentieth century it belonged to the Fox family and then M. C. Huguley, who divided it into three apartments. A 2008 rehabilitation removed the added partitions, repaired historic features and converted the house to offices. It was listed for its architecture, as an excellent local example of the Queen Anne style and house type.","period_of_significance":"1892","architect_builder":"A. E. and J.
