It is described as the best-preserved frame example of Gothic Revival church style among Amherst County churches of 1850-1910. Its original unpainted chestnut beadboard interior, pews and other furnishings give it a high level of integrity.","narrative":"Macedonia Methodist Church is a small frame country church built in 1896 in Coffeytown, a secluded mountain community in northwest Amherst County, Virginia. A local contractor, F. E. Coleman, built it for about $488 using timber from nearby forests, replacing an 1875 log church. The weatherboard building rests on a random rubble stone foundation and has a front gable roof, a small bell tower, a quatrefoil in the gable peak, and triangular window heads that simplify the pointed lancet form. Inside, the walls and ceiling are lined with unpainted chestnut beadboard, and the original chestnut pews, altar rail and lectern remain. It was listed for its architecture. Among nine Gothic Revival-influenced churches built in Amherst County between about 1850 and 1910, it is described as the best-preserved frame example. Closed in 1981, it was acquired in 1990 by the Macedonia Community Association, which restored it and holds community events there.","period_of_significance":"1896","architect_builder":"F.E.
