It is also the burial place of Battle of Kings Mountain participants, including Colonel Frederick Hambright, and of early settlers of the Kings Creek area.","narrative":"Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery occupies 1.8 acres at the end of Elm Street near Grover, crossing the North Carolina and South Carolina line. Burials began in 1780 with William Patterson, who died on the day of the Battle of Kings Mountain, and continued until 1916. The grounds hold about 108 gravestones in north and south sections divided by a wide east-west path. Colonel Frederick Hambright, a founder of the church and a Kings Mountain veteran, is buried here. The cemetery was listed mainly for its funerary art. Many soapstone, schist and marble markers show the work of the Caveny and Crawford stonecutting families of York County, South Carolina, from the late 1810s to the 1860s. Their motifs include willow trees, trees of life, quarter sunbursts and eight-pointed compass stars. Later marble pedestal tombs with urns reflect national styles. Descendants of those buried now mow the grounds and hold annual memorial services.","period_of_significance":"1780-1906","architect_builder":"Stonecutters and engravers James Crawford, William N. Descendants mow the grounds regularly and hold annual memorial services.
