It is also considered an outstanding and remarkably intact example of the work of Hoggson Brothers of New York City and of Albert Fuller's firm, Fuller & Robinson, one of Albany's most influential local architects.","narrative":"The University Club of Albany occupies a Flemish bond brick clubhouse at the corner of Washington Avenue and Dove Street, two blocks from the State Capitol. Built in 1924-25 after a November 1923 fire destroyed the earlier Queen Anne mansion on the site, it was designed by Albert Fuller's firm, Fuller & Robinson, in the Colonial Revival style. A two-story rear wing from 1914, designed by Hoggson Brothers of New York City, was retained. The main entrance faces Dove Street under a columned portico. Inside are lounges, a dining room, a billiard room, a basement bowling alley, and about two dozen sleeping rooms. The club was founded in 1901 by college graduates seeking a social and intellectual meeting place, and it hosted speakers such as President William H. Taft. The building is recognized for its association with that organization and as an intact work of its architects. Its neighbors include the Harmanus Bleecker Library, also by Fuller & Robinson.","period_of_significance":"1914-1925","architect_builder":"Hoggson Brothers (1914); Albert Fuller & William Robinson (1924-5)","architectural_style":"Later 19th and 20th Century Revival: Colonial Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a clubhouse with dining, bowling, squash, and sleeping rooms; the form says the building retains its architectural integrity.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:47.876901-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/11000268.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/11000268/3103508856-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/11000268/3103508856-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"This image or media was taken or created by Matt H.
