Most such stores have been lost to development since the 1970s. It still serves as both a shop and a community gathering place.","narrative":"Standing at the northern crossroads of the hamlet of Jonesville in Saratoga County, this clapboard-clad general store began as a one-and-a-half-story, front-gabled building with Greek Revival details, dated by maps and photographs to between 1856 and 1866. It also housed the local post office. In the 1890s it was raised to two and a half stories, given a larger turned-post porch, a bay on the southeast side and a Victorian-style storefront. A rear block holds a kitchen and back dining area, and much original interior material survives, including built-in shelving, a long counter and an ornate cast iron stove. Early proprietors included William R. Weld, followed by his son, then Willard Shepard, and from 1914 the brothers Ward and Roy Noyes. The property is valued as a rare survivor of the hamlet general store, which once served each community in Clifton Park as a supply point and social center, and it continues in that role today.","period_of_significance":"c1860-1900","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian","criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Still in use as a retail outlet and community gathering place, with a dining room and commercial kitchen in the rear block.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:47.822302-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/10001136.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10001136/f5012f76a1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10001136/f5012f76a1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Peter Flass","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jonesville_Store.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Flass</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jonesville_Store.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321590","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonesville_Store","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q23074016"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/saratoga-county/jonesville-store-10001136/"}
