A 1940 wood garage stands behind it.","why_significant":"The house is significant under Criterion C in architecture as an excellent and intact example of a c.1890 Folk Victorian-style Georgian Cottage. It keeps its central-hall plan, wraparound porch with spindlework and brackets, and original interior woodwork. The significance is local, evaluated in the context of Emanuel County.","narrative":"Built around 1890 on a corner lot in Twin City, Georgia, this one-and-a-half-story frame house combines Folk Victorian decoration with a Georgian Cottage plan: a central hall with two rooms on each side. A multi-gable roof with decorative shingles, a wraparound porch with turned posts, spindlework and scrollwork brackets, and a front door with original stained glass and transom define its exterior. Inside, the original wood floors, wainscoting, paneled doors, hardware and ornate mantels survive. Later changes include replacement vinyl windows in 2000, removal of the chimneys in 1993, an attic converted to living space, and rear additions. A 1940 garage and mature trees remain on the half-acre lot. Dr. George W. Davis, a dentist, owned the house from 1902, and the Proctor family, including longtime postmaster Claude Proctor, bought it in 1928 and later boarded local teachers there. It was listed as an intact local example of its style and type.","period_of_significance":"c.1890","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Folk Victorian; Georgian Cottage","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single dwelling.
