Its location in Hammond's Corners reflects the township's early pattern of dispersed farms and small mixed-use hamlets.","narrative":"Built in the early 1840s on Ira Road in Hammond's Corners, this one-and-a-half-story frame house is a vernacular Greek Revival dwelling of the type locally called a New England one-and-a-half. Peter Voris Jr., a county surveyor, state legislator, postmaster and judge, bought the land in 1840 and built the house, which was on the 1846 tax records. Its north gable end keeps original Greek Revival features, including cornice returns, a wide plain frieze and a profiled door surround with corner blocks. The house changed over time: a Victorian porch was added in the late nineteenth century, and in the mid-1920s dormers were added where frieze windows had been, giving it a blended Greek Revival and Colonial Revival look. A rear wing was added in 1987 and a west porch in 2002. The house is among the oldest surviving buildings in the hamlet and shows early Western Reserve settlement patterns and changing architectural tastes.","period_of_significance":"1840-1928","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century/Greek Revival; 20th Century/Colonial Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single-family dwelling; the form lists current function as domestic/single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.7928-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/10000976.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10000976/fd551286e1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10000976/fd551286e1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PETER_VORIS_JR_RESIDENCE,_SUMMIT_COUNTY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986322","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138697853"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/summit-county/voris-peter-jr-house-10000976/"}
