It is Ward's only known stone design. The Colonial Revival house has a side-gabled form, a slate roof, and front-gabled wings that hold a garage and a library. Its off-center front door has leaded glass sidelights from the studio of Henry Keck. Inside, the principal rooms keep their original plan and most finishes, including a Mercer tile fireplace with a Colonial Revival mantle, library cabinets with leaded glass, and original wood moldings. Many first-floor floorboards were replaced in the mid-1990s after water damage. The house sits in the Roberts Estate subdivision, near Hiawatha Lake in Onondaga Park, an area with a well-preserved group of early twentieth-century houses. It was listed for its intact representation of Ward's residential architecture. The Stowells lived there until 1943.","period_of_significance":"1919","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is described as good on the exterior and interior; the house is still used as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:48.883918-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000086.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314045","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/chemung-county/stowell-house-100008029/"}
