It is also an important work of architect Isaac Green, Jr., and still serves an active religious congregation. Its Tiffany Studios windows add artistic value.","narrative":"St. Ann's Episcopal Church on Middle Road in Sayville is a cruciform granite church with a crenellated square bell tower, built in 1887-1888 and designed by local architect Isaac Henry Green, Jr. Its walls are rock-faced gray granite imported from New England, and it is believed to be the first stone church in Suffolk County, breaking from the Long Island tradition of wood-shingled churches. Green modeled the plan and tower on the Church of the Holy Innocents in Highland Falls but adapted the design to recall a medieval English parish church of the Norman period. Inside, a high wooden ceiling with heavy trusses rises above the nave, and seven Tiffany Studios windows above the altar depict the resurrection. The property also includes a Queen Anne style rectory from 1879, enlarged under Green's direction in 1922. The church was financed by members of the Suydam and Cutting families and remains an active place of worship.","period_of_significance":"1887-1922","architect_builder":"Isaac Henry Green, Jr. (architect); Conrad Waegelin (builder)","architectural_style":"Romanesque Revival (English Norman)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still owned and operated by an active religious organization; church function continues as current use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:47.938599-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/10000611.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10000611/8c1aabfb46-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10000611/8c1aabfb46-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Maierc1982","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_church_building_.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Maierc1982</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_church_building_.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314789","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q132774915"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/suffolk-county/saint-anns-episcopal-church-10000611/"}
