Meaker Food Company.","why_significant":"It is significant under Criterion A for its link to the Depression Era Development context within Syracuse's industrial resources, and under Criterion C as a refined example of early twentieth-century industrial architecture. It is described as an excellent local example of an early modern poured-in-place concrete building with unusually decorative facade detailing.","narrative":"Rising four stories along Erie Boulevard West, west of downtown Syracuse, this 1930 warehouse was built for the C.G. Meaker Food Company of Auburn, which chose Syracuse for its rail and road connections. The boulevard was laid out in 1925 on the filled Erie Canal, and a railroad spur served the rear. The structure is poured-in-place reinforced concrete using the patented Turner mushroom column system, which allowed open floors, more daylight and fire resistance. Orange brick walls carry cast stone Collegiate Gothic details, including piers with quatrefoils and a shooting star motif. A brick-and-tile west wall was meant to be temporary, awaiting a west wing that the Depression prevented. Later tenants included Loblaw Groceries, Sears, Roebuck & Company and All State Stamping. The building has stood empty since 2003. It was listed for its association with Depression-era industrial development and as a refined example of industrial design.","period_of_significance":"1930","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th & 20th Century Revivals: Collegiate Gothic; Modern Movement","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Vacant since 2003, when the last long-term occupant, All State Stamping, moved out.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:48.705396-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/10000226.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10000226/47fcff9c57-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/10000226/47fcff9c57-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CGMeakerFoodCoWarehouse_southandwestsides.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CGMeakerFoodCoWarehouse_southandwestsides.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314065","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C.G._Meaker_Food_Company_Warehouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5006105"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/meaker-c-g-food-company-warehouse-10000226/"}
