It keeps much of its early framing, paneling, fireplaces and hardware. It also reflects the agricultural past of the upland farms of Blackstone, once part of Mendon's South Parish.","narrative":"Built around 1790 by farmer Benjamin Thayer, this house at 200 Farm Street in Blackstone is a five-bay, 2½-story Georgian-style farmhouse with a single-story side wing. It has a fieldstone and granite foundation, clapboard siding, and a central brick chimney set slightly off center. Inside, the plan has a shallow front stair hall with parlors on each side. Early features survive, including raised-panel doors, Suffolk latches, feathered-edge paneling, exposed beams, a beehive bake oven and a pegged rafter system in the attic. Thayer assembled a farm of more than 100 acres, and the property stayed in Thayer hands until 1920 apart from a six-year gap. A garage from the 1950s, granite stepping stones, a roadside stone wall and a meadow behind the house contribute to the property. The house is valued as an example of a late 18th-century farmhouse adapted by later generations and set in an area shaped by Thayer family farming.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Benjamin Thayer (1756-1811)","architectural_style":"Colonial: Georgian, Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still in use as a single-family dwelling; the form describes continuous use as a homestead.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.530242-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/20/7975/63797520/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/09001174.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09001174/00d937afed-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09001174/00d937afed-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BlackstoneMA_BenjaminThayerEstate.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BlackstoneMA_BenjaminThayerEstate.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63797520","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Thayer_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16901474"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/thayer-benjamin-house-09001174/"}
