Under Criterion C it shows both Dutch and English timber-frame construction with its early fabric intact. The burial ground is significant for its age and for reflecting changes in Quaker burial practices.","narrative":"A two-story timber-frame Quaker meeting house built in 1812 stands beside Northern Boulevard in Manhasset, Nassau County, with a historic burial ground to its east. The 41-by-34-foot building has a side-gabled slate roof, long wood shingles, a three-bay porch and original windows. Inside, a sliding screen divides the men's and women's spaces, with a facing bench on one side and a raked balcony opposite. Its roof framing and shingle exposure follow Dutch practice, set within the plain style of Long Island Quaker meetings. The congregation traces back to a 1702 meeting at Cow Neck, among the earliest Friends meetings on Long Island, and the building has been in continuous use since 1812. The burial ground, begun around 1730, holds about 259 marked graves, including members of the Mott, Hicks and Latham families, and shows the shift from unmarked graves to simple inscribed stones. Additions were made in 1954 and 1966.","period_of_significance":"1730-1954","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Other (vernacular Quaker meeting house combining Dutch and English timber-frame traditions)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as in continuous use by the Friends since 1812; the building was restored in 1986-87 and the burial ground is maintained as part of the campus.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:48.090367-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/09000700.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000700/a8be2d2e8f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000700/a8be2d2e8f-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Jim.henderson","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Manhasset_Quaker_Meeting_1421_No_Blvd_sunny_jeh.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim.henderson</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Manhasset_Quaker_Meeting_1421_No_Blvd_sunny_jeh.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75319151","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhasset_Monthly_Meeting_of_the_Society_of_Friends","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q130746496"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/nassau-county/manhasset-monthly-meeting-of-the-society-of-friends-09000700/"}
