It keeps its central-hall floor plan, its historic ell, and its historic interior and exterior materials. It is significant at the local level under architecture.","narrative":"Set on a long, narrow lot at the intersection of Calvin Road and County Road 22 north of Monticello, this one-story frame house was built about 1883 by Charles Weymon Pope, a prosperous Jasper County farmer and landowner. It follows the Georgian Cottage form, with a central hall flanked by two rooms on each side, a hip roof, fieldstone foundation, weatherboard siding, and a shed-roof porch with turned posts and scrollwork brackets. A rear ell connected by a covered breezeway may be as old as the house or older. Inside, the hall and front rooms keep their original flushboard walls, ceilings and floors, along with paneled doors and moldings. The house passed through the Pope and Talmadge families, who farmed cotton on the surrounding land into the 1970s. It was listed as an excellent, intact example of a Georgian Cottage, a house type most common in Georgia's Piedmont between 1850 and 1890. Five modern or rebuilt outbuildings do not contribute to its character.","period_of_significance":"c.1883","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian Cottage","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a single dwelling, described as a retreat and home for the owner's family.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.756561-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/09000492.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208724","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134382936"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/jasper-county/pope-talmadge-house-09000492/"}
