Constructed in 1871 on the site of an earlier log church.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the church is a rare example of a light frame Italianate rural church and the only such example of Italianate church architecture of its kind in Franklin County. It retains its ashlar siding, scrolled brackets, pilasters and bell tower, and contains a signed Tiffany stained glass panel installed in 1934.","narrative":"Built in 1871 at Welsh Run, a crossroads village in south-central Franklin County, this one-and-a-half story frame church is an Italianate structure with ashlar-patterned weatherboard siding, scrolled brackets, pilasters and a square bell tower. It stands on a limestone foundation and faces east, with a limestone-walled cemetery to the south. The building replaced a log meeting house that had served the Lower West Conococheague congregation since 1774, and its cornerstone is inscribed with the 1871 date. Elias Kennedy, a son of Rev. Robert Kennedy, funded its construction, and the church was named for his father, who led the congregation from 1802 to 1843. The nomination regards it as a rare rural example of Italianate church design in the county, where the style was otherwise concentrated in larger towns. Its interior retains original pews and plaster walls, and a Tiffany window was added in 1934. The church was listed for its architectural distinction.","period_of_significance":"1871","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used for public functions and social events by the friends group and other local organizations; the church was dissolved as a congregation in 1962.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:10:27.483826-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/09000385.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000385/2d6e51b9b4-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000385/2d6e51b9b4-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Smallbones","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robt_Kennedy_Presby_Church_FranCo_PA.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Smallbones</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robt_Kennedy_Presby_Church_FranCo_PA.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71996597","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kennedy_Memorial_Presbyterian_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7346317"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/franklin-county/kennedy-robert-memorial-presbyterian-church-09000385/"}
