It covers 75 properties on streets such as Milk, High, Summer and Lincoln, built between about 1750 and 1959.","why_significant":"The area is significant for its link to Westborough Center's growth from a rural agrarian village into the town's commercial, industrial, civic and institutional focus. It is also a cohesive, well-preserved collection of houses showing a full range of architectural styles. It meets Criteria A and C at the local level.","narrative":"This residential neighborhood next to downtown Westborough, Massachusetts, forms the third and final extension of the West Main Street Historic District. It takes in about 9 acres and 75 properties, nearly all of them houses, along Milk, High, Summer, Lincoln and nearby streets. Construction runs from 1750 to 1960, though roughly 80 percent of the buildings date from the second half of the 19th century. The oldest is the 1750 Rev. Ebenezer Parkman Parsonage, built for the town's first minister and moved to its present site in 1867. Greek Revival, Italianate and Second Empire houses dominate, and the 1883 Henry K. Taft House is considered the best Stick Style example in Westborough. The 1902 Westborough Weaving Company, a brick mill with Renaissance Revival detailing, is the only non-residential building. The district was listed for its role in the town center's growth from a farming village into its commercial and civic core, and for its intact, varied collection of historic homes.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1750-1959","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial, Federal, Greek Revival, Second Empire, Italianate, Queen Anne, Stick, Renaissance Revival, Colonial Revival, Bungalow/Craftsman","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"All but one of the principal buildings are currently residences; the one non-residential building is the former Westborough Weaving Company mill, which is well preserved.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:05.25393-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/0/7973/63797300/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/09000196.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000196/6278b2226d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000196/6278b2226d-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Daderot","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Unitarian_Universalist_Congregational_Society_of_Westborough_-_Westborough,_Massachusetts_-_DSC05133.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daderot</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Unitarian_Universalist_Congregational_Society_of_Westborough_-_Westborough,_Massachusetts_-_DSC05133.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63797300","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Main_Street_Historic_District_(Westborough,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q17035788"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/west-main-street-historic-district-boundary-increase-iii-09000196/"}
