It was one of the first houses built in Oliver after the village was laid out in 1885 along the Central of Georgia Railroad. Apart from the rear addition, it keeps its original configuration and much of its historic exterior and interior finishes.","narrative":"This T-shaped, balloon-frame cottage on Old Louisville Road in Oliver, Georgia, dates to about 1888-1889. It has a standing-seam gable roof, clapboard siding, six-over-six wood windows, a brick pier foundation and a partial-width hip porch with square Doric columns. Inside, beadboard walls and ceilings, paneled doors and simple mantels survive. A small side-gable tenant house, probably from the 1930s, was later attached to the back. The house was built soon after the 1885 subdivision of Lufburrow family land created the village along the Central of Georgia Railroad. Deed records show Mrs. John T. Harris bought the lot in 1888 and sold it with a dwelling to Julia Murrow in 1889. Ivey Trowell, a schoolteacher, owned it from 1927 to 1969. It was listed for its local architectural significance as a well-preserved example of a gabled wing cottage, a house type common across Georgia between 1875 and 1915. It is still a dwelling today.","period_of_significance":"c.1888-1889","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"OTHER: Gabled wing cottage","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; recently rehabilitated as a rental property with Georgia state tax incentives.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.021931-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/09000187.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000187/a5f79ba4d7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/09000187/a5f79ba4d7-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jud McCranie","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Harris-Murrow-Trowell_House,_Oliver,_GA,_US.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jud McCranie</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Harris-Murrow-Trowell_House,_Oliver,_GA,_US.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209439","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harris-Murrow-Trowell_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q30622040"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/screven-county/harris-murrow-trowell-house-09000187/"}
