It retains character-defining features such as brick Doric columns supporting a pedimented portico, a symmetrical facade and a classical door surround. The Georgian cottage is described as the most popular and long-lived house type in Georgia.","narrative":"Built around 1843 for George Kidd, a prosperous Troup County farmer, landowner and cotton gin maker, this one-and-a-half-story frame house stands on Greenville Road about five miles east of LaGrange, Georgia. It follows the Georgian cottage plan, with a central hall flanked by two rooms on each side, and carries Greek Revival details: a pedimented portico on two round brick Doric columns, a symmetrical three-bay front, and a wood door with transom and sidelights. Inside, the original wood floors, ceilings, doors, moldings and classical mantels survive, along with a dogleg staircase leading to the half-story bedrooms. A sunroom was added around 1940, and a rear porch enclosure and kitchen ell came after 1968. The Kidd plantation once covered about 1,700 acres, but the house now sits on 3.33 acres. It was listed for its architecture, as a good local example of a Greek Revival-style Georgian cottage.","period_of_significance":"c.1843","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century/Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently in use as a single dwelling, as it was historically; two noncontributing outbuildings (a reconstructed barn and an altered washhouse) are on the 3.33-acre property.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.398267-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/08001249.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/08001249/c87504bcfc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/08001249/c87504bcfc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Rivers Langley; SaveRivers","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kidd-Robertson_House;_LaGrange,_GA.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Rivers Langley; SaveRivers</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kidd-Robertson_House;_LaGrange,_GA.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209735","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134464470"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/troup-county/kidd-robertson-house-08001249/"}
