It is significant under Criterion A for its role in the development of Truxton as a farming and dairy community served by rail.","narrative":"Truxton Depot is a one-story wooden railroad station at the end of Railroad Street in Truxton, Cortland County. Built in 1872 for the New York and Oswego Midland Railroad, it measures about 50 by 30 feet and is divided into a freight end and a passenger end. Board-and-batten siding, a metal-covered gabled roof on large brackets, and a three-sided window facing the tracks mark its design. Inside, the ticket office and waiting room keep beaded-board paneling, and some signal levers remain. The Lehigh Valley Railroad bought the line in 1905 and ran it until the last train in December 1967. The depot then served as an Agway warehouse with few alterations, and the Town of Truxton bought it in 1991. It was listed for its intact depot architecture and for its link to the farming and cheese-shipping economy of the area. Baseball figure John J. McGraw, born in Truxton, once delivered telegrams from the station.","period_of_significance":"1872-1958","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Listed as vacant/not in use as its current function; the town owns it, plans reuse as town hall and museum, and has restored and repainted the exterior.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:54.148595-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/08000930.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/08000930/9ac9423dce-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/08000930/9ac9423dce-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Dj paige","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Truxton_Depot.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Dj paige</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Truxton_Depot.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317173","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truxton_station","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7848379"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/cortland-county/truxton-depot-08000930/"}
