It is also significant in architecture as a Colonial Revival school with two International Style additions, including a 1951 wing that was an early example of that style in Georgia.","narrative":"Hawkinsville Public School occupies a 12-acre block southwest of downtown Hawkinsville, Georgia. Its core is a one-story, H-shaped brick building completed in 1936 with Public Works Administration assistance, replacing an 1890 school on the same site. W. Elliott Dunwody, Jr. of Macon designed it in a modest Colonial Revival style, with a pedimented entry portico and an auditorium that still holds about 500 original theater seats with Art Deco side panels. Later additions include a 1949 gymnasium, a 1950 lunchroom, a 1951 International Style classroom wing, and a c. 1968-1969 classroom wing. The school grew as city and county systems consolidated, and it became the first major public facility in Pulaski County to integrate, in the 1966-1967 school year. It served as the high school until 1975 and later as a middle school. Today the campus holds an alternative school, pre-kindergarten, and school system offices.","period_of_significance":"1936-1969","architect_builder":"Dunwody, William Elliott, Jr. (1936 building); Dennis & Dennis (1951 addition); J.E.
