It keeps its open breezeway, historic materials and original floor plan. Only 156 dogtrot houses appear among 82,678 resources in the statewide Georgia historic resources survey.","narrative":"Five miles from Jasper in rural Pickens County, Georgia, a one-story hewn-log dogtrot house has stood since 1877. Two unequal rooms sit on either side of an open breezeway under one side-gable metal roof, supported on stone piers of granite and marble, with a stone chimney. Later changes include a rear bedroom added around 1905 by the Pendley family, vertical plank siding covered with asphalt siding in 1938-1939, and a shed-roof porch added in 1941. Inside, the original floor plan, wood floors and kitchen plaster ceiling remain. The property also includes an 1877 saddle-notch log barn, a log privy, an 1877 well and a well house built in 1948. The house was listed for architecture at the state level. It is described as a rare dogtrot that keeps its open passage and has changed little since 1905. Only 156 dogtrot houses were recorded among 82,678 historic resources in Georgia's survey. It remains a private home.","period_of_significance":"1877, C. 1905, 1948","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"OTHER: log dogtrot","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single dwelling; the well is still in use and the kitchen is still furnished and used as a kitchen.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.727175-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/08000293.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/08000293/6eda811cc4-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/08000293/6eda811cc4-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GRIFFITH-PENDLEY_HOUSE,_PICKENS_COUNTY,_GA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209251","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffeth-Pendley_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16994541"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/pickens-county/griffeth-pendley-house-08000293/"}
