The 1880 census shows it was one of the more productive farms in Steeles Township. The farm was created from the Powellton plantation after the Civil War, and its cemetery holds finely carved marble monuments from the antebellum and post-bellum periods.","narrative":"Powell-Brookshire-Parker Farm occupies a knoll above Buffalo Creek near its meeting with the Little River, in the northwest panhandle of Richmond County, North Carolina. The nominated 25-acre core holds a story-and-a-half frame farmhouse, probably built in the early 1870s, with weatherboard siding and a front porch with sawn Victorian ornament. Behind it stand dependencies, a flowerhouse, a double-crib corncrib and guano house, and two barns, including a large gambrel-roofed stock and hay barn built in 1937. A cemetery on a wooded rise contains marble monuments, some carved in Fayetteville, dating from the 1830s onward. The farm was carved out of the Powellton plantation after the Civil War. In 1880 the Brookshire farm was among the most productive in its township, producing corn, cotton, oats and wheat. Few comparable farm buildings survive in this part of the county. A modern vineyard now covers about twenty acres.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival; Late Victorian","criteria":[],"status_note":"The farm is in use as a farm with a modern vineyard, hunting grounds and a dwelling; the Brookshire House has been altered with mid-twentieth century and 1990s changes.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:54.299455-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/14/7219/47721914/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/07001410.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47721914","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powell%E2%80%93Brookshire%E2%80%93Parker_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19987665"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/richmond-county/powell-brookshire-parker-farm-07001410/"}
