The Southern Railway Company was architect and Elliot Building Company the builder.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the depot is an intact 1940s example of a combination passenger and freight depot, and possibly the last major railroad depot built in Georgia. It also reflects racial segregation through its separate white and African-American waiting rooms. It is tied to rail transportation that supported Robins Air Force Base and the growth of the city.","narrative":"Built in 1943-1944 beside the tracks in downtown Warner Robins, Georgia, this one-story brick depot served passengers and freight bound for the town and nearby Robins Air Force Base. Southern Railway designed it and Elliot Building Company built it to replace an 1889 wood depot. Wartime growth had transformed the crossroads village of Wellston into a boomtown, and nearly all personnel and materials arrived by rail. The building keeps its original floor plan, with separate white and African-American waiting rooms, a central ticket office, baggage and freight rooms, a trackside bay window, and a covered concourse. Original ticket counters and wainscoting survive. Passenger service ended in 1969 and freight in 1970; the city bought the depot in 1994 and renovated it in the 1990s. It is recognized for its architecture as an intact combination depot, for what it shows about segregation, and for its role in local rail transportation. A caboose on the site is noncontributing.","period_of_significance":"1943-1957","architect_builder":"Southern Railway Company - Architect; Elliot Building Company - Builder","architectural_style":"Other: mid-20th century railroad depot","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition with its integrity retained. Since 1998 the city has used it as a welcome center and it houses the convention and visitors' bureau.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.400078-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/07001336.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/07001336/0fbfe024c5-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/07001336/0fbfe024c5-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jud McCranie","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Warner_Robins_Depot,_Warner_Robins._GA,_US.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jud McCranie</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Warner_Robins_Depot,_Warner_Robins._GA,_US.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208682","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Robins_station","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28971254"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/houston-county/warner-robins-depot-07001336/"}
