It shows typical features such as field cobbles laid in horizontal rows, limestone quoins, and stone lintels and sills. It is also a vernacular example of Federal/Greek Revival rural domestic architecture.","narrative":"This cobblestone farmhouse on Stone Church Road in Junius, Seneca County, was built around 1830 on a 9-acre parcel once part of a 100-acre dairy farm. The two-story, five-bay house has a center-hall plan, a gable roof with cornice returns, and a one-story former kitchen wing. Its walls are field cobbles laid in horizontal rows and set in lime mortar, with limestone quoins, lintels and sills. The front entrance has sidelights and slender pilasters. Three limestone hitching posts and a modern pole barn stand on the property. William Brown acquired the farm in 1825 and likely built the house soon afterward, and later owners continued dairying into the 1960s. The house was listed for its architecture. It represents the Early Period of cobblestone building in New York, and only about 12 to 14 of roughly 20 cobblestone buildings once recorded in Seneca County retain a high degree of integrity. The exterior walls and stonework remain largely intact, though windows and interiors have been updated.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1830","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Early-19th Century: Federal (vernacular Federal/Greek Revival details)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single dwelling; the original windows have been replaced with vinyl and most interior fabric is modern.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:54.111119-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/07001018.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/07001018/b473ae1e2e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/07001018/b473ae1e2e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:JuniusNY_1111StoneChurchRoad.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:JuniusNY_1111StoneChurchRoad.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314634","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobblestone_Farmhouse_at_1111_Stone_Church_Road","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5138813"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/seneca-county/cobblestone-farmhouse-at-1111-stone-church-roach-07001018/"}
