It is also significant under Criterion A for its role in the water-powered industries along Nine Mile Creek and the Syracuse and Auburn rail line.","narrative":"Martisco Station is a two-story Italianate brick railroad depot built in 1870 in the hamlet of Martisco, in the town of Camillus, Onondaga County. Its long side faces the tracks, and a broad overhanging roof rests on large brackets. Unusually for a depot, it has a second story that held bedrooms for the station agent's family. Inside, the waiting room keeps its wood floors, beaded-board wainscot, four-panel doors and a small ticket office. The building was first called Marcellus Station and was renamed Martisco in 1905, after the Marcellus and Otisco Lake Railway opened. Service ended in the late 1950s, and the station was scheduled for demolition in 1964. The Central New York Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society then leased and bought it and began restoration. It now serves as a railway museum, with a Pennsylvania Railroad dining car alongside. The depot is recognized as an intact example of its type and for its link to the area's rail-served industries.","period_of_significance":"1870-1956","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian: Italianate","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Used as a railway museum and headquarters by the Central New York Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society; interior remains substantially intact to the period of construction.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.39412-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/07000292.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/07000292/759ab480a8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/07000292/759ab480a8-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Gilbert Ask, Photographer","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Martisco_Station,_Marcellus_%26_Otisco_Streets,_Martisco_(Onondaga_County,_New_York).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Gilbert Ask, Photographer</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Martisco_Station,_Marcellus_%26_Otisco_Streets,_Martisco_(Onondaga_County,_New_York).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75320388","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martisco_station","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6777279"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/martisco-station-07000292/"}
