The house evolved through four building phases, including an 1860 Greek Revival main block, and the surviving log and frame outbuildings illustrate the working farm. The form also ties the farm to the Jones and Massie families, including Colonel Thomas B. Massie, a Confederate cavalry soldier.","narrative":"Meadow Grove Farm is a working farm of about 346 acres west of Amissville in Rappahannock County, Virginia, set near Battle Run and below Aaron Mountain. Its 22 resources date from about 1820 to 1965, and 18 contribute to its historic character. The main house grew in four phases. It began as a one-and-a-half-story hand-hewn log dwelling around 1820, gained a two-story Greek Revival hall-and-parlor block in 1860, received a wing in 1881, and was partly rebuilt in brick in 1965. Around the house stand a tenant house or slave quarters, a schoolhouse, a summer kitchen, a meat house, a blacksmith shop, granaries, a corncrib and a barn with a log core. A walled family cemetery holds Massie family graves from 1908 onward. The farm is tied to Moses R. Jones, who improved it in 1860, and to Colonel Thomas B. Massie and his descendants, who farmed and held it into the twentieth century.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century/Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Current functions listed include single dwelling, secondary structures, cemetery, and agricultural storage, animal facility and outbuildings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:03.101281-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/31/6828/41682831/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/06000803.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000803/c2af5ff5b7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000803/c2af5ff5b7-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"self","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Meadow_Grove_Farm,_view_from_roadway_of_house.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">self</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Meadow_Grove_Farm,_view_from_roadway_of_house.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/41682831","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meadow_Grove_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15252581"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/virginia/rappahannock-county/meadow-grove-farm-06000803/"}
