It also reflects the soft drink industry and the local franchised bottling plant, which was the only plant to bottle Double-Cola in the Rome area (Criterion A).","narrative":"Located four blocks from downtown Rome, Georgia, this two-story, flat-roofed building at 419 East Second Avenue was built in 1936-1937 as a Double-Cola bottling plant. Buff-colored brick is trimmed with black glazed ceramic tile at the wainscot, window sills, parapet, stepped upper corners and entrance surround, combining International Style form with Art Deco details. A one-story brick warehouse was added around 1947, and a prefabricated steel building from 1966 now serves as covered parking. The plant bottled Double-Cola for northwest Georgia and part of Tennessee, using syrup concentrate from Chattanooga, and was the only plant to bottle the brand in the Rome area. Bottling continued until about 1982 or 1983, after which the building held an auto shop and an office-supply warehouse before its rehabilitation as an orthodontic office. It was recognized for its architecture, its link to the soft drink industry, and its surviving original tile and workmanship. No architect or builder is identified.","period_of_significance":"1937-1956","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Modern Movement: International Style","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Rehabilitated using the investment tax credit program and now used as an orthodontist's office.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.150712-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/06000738.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000738/0c927204ff-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000738/0c927204ff-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Bubba73","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Double_Cola_building,_Rome,_GA,_US.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Bubba73</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Double_Cola_building,_Rome,_GA,_US.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"83000193","name":"Between the Rivers Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/georgia/between-the-rivers-historic-district-83000193/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93207988","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134304903"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/floyd-county/double-cola-bottling-company-06000738/"}
