It contains 35 contributing houses, 13 non-contributing houses, 3 contributing structures and 11 contributing objects.","why_significant":"The district is nominated under a multiple property form on an English Garden development in Lake Forest, 1926-1961. Its curving streets, gateways, traffic circle and consistent landscape setting reflect a planned development. Architect Stanley D. Anderson controlled the design, which set a standard for quality that later builders followed.","narrative":"Deerpath Hill Estates is a planned residential neighborhood on the west side of Lake Forest, Illinois, laid out in the 1920s as an English Garden development. It includes an original 20-acre section and part of a First Addition on the former McKinlock estate. Curving streets, cul-de-sacs, a traffic circle, stone gateways and bronze-lantern streetlights on cast concrete poles give the area a consistent character. Architect Stanley D. Anderson designed the monuments and several early houses, and reviewed designs by other architects, which kept construction quality and appearance consistent. Pre-Depression houses show a range of revival styles, including French Norman, Cotswold, and Colonial. Ranch and split-level houses built from 1950 to 1961 followed the same setbacks and landscaping. Later houses from 1962 onward are counted as non-contributing. The district contains 35 contributing houses, 3 contributing structures and 11 contributing objects. Most houses keep their original footprints, with few additions and little use of aluminum or vinyl siding.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Stanley D. Anderson (Anderson and Ticknor), principal architect; William Adams, principal contractor on most houses; Knute Larson, Jerry Cerny and William Braun also designed houses","architectural_style":"Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, French Renaissance/French Norman, Other: Ranch","criteria":[],"status_note":"Houses are still in domestic use. Most retain their original footprints and many original windows. The McKinlock house and the reflecting pool and fountain at the First Addition entrance have been razed.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.028958-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/92/8912/28891292/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/06000676.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000676/5e25da94c7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000676/5e25da94c7-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Teemu08 (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:265_King_Muir.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Teemu08 (talk)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:265_King_Muir.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28891292","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deerpath_Hill_Estates","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16991634"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/lake-county/deerpath-hill-estates-historic-district-06000676/"}
