Its Gothic arched windows, engaged corner entrance/bell tower, opalescent stained glass and finely crafted varnished wood sanctuary sheathing are cited. It also remains a prominent landmark at the village center.","narrative":"Standing at the center of Richmondville on a slight rise along Main Street, this Methodist church was built in 1900 at a cost of $5,500, replacing an 1866 building on the same site. Beside it is a two-story parsonage the congregation built in 1893. The church has a steep gable roof, a fieldstone foundation, an engaged corner tower with an open belfry holding the original bell, and Gothic arched windows with leaded opalescent stained glass. Inside, the sanctuary has curved wood pews, a sloping floor, and walls and ceiling covered in varnished beaded wainscot laid in a herringbone pattern. A pipe organ was added in 1913. Vinyl siding in 1991 and a 1960 rear parish hall wing altered the property, but it keeps enough integrity to represent turn-of-the-century village church design. It was listed for its architecture and its role as a local landmark and community center.","period_of_significance":"1893-1900","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th Century: vernacular","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a church; vinyl siding was added in 1991 and a rear parish hall wing in 1960.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.264089-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/06000575.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000575/2d50ecee12-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000575/2d50ecee12-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Doug Kerr from Upstate New York","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Richmondville_United_Methodist_Church_Apr_10.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doug Kerr from Upstate New York</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Richmondville_United_Methodist_Church_Apr_10.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321761","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmondville_United_Methodist_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7331074"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/schoharie-county/richmondville-united-methodist-church-06000575/"}
