It was built by developer Henry K. Turnbull just outside the Deerpath Hill Estates subdivision.","why_significant":"The house is argued to be significant under Criterion A for community planning and development and Criterion C for architecture. Turnbull placed it as a visual marker at the northern edge of his development to draw buyers toward the First Addition. Its 1941 expansion by architect Stanley D. Anderson, who also helped plan Deerpath Hill Estates, adds to its architectural interest.","narrative":"Standing on the southwest corner of Castlegate Court and Burton Drive in Lake Forest, this Colonial Revival house was built in 1930 by developer Henry K. Turnbull. It lies just outside his Deerpath Hill Estates, in the neighboring Leroy Burton Petite Estates subdivision, and was placed to mark the northern edge of his development and lead prospective buyers toward the First Addition. The sales folio called it \"Louisiana Colonial.\" The architect of the original house is unknown. In 1941, new owner Calvin Fentress hired Stanley D. Anderson to add a second Lannon stone gable, a two-stall garage and a master suite. The I-shaped house combines medium brown brick with cream-colored Lannon stone gables, a wood shake roof and copper gutters. Its exterior has remained unchanged since 1941. It is listed for its role in the planned growth of Deerpath Hill Estates and for its architecture.","period_of_significance":"circa 1928-1961","architect_builder":"Unknown/Anderson, Stanley D., architect","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition, in use as a single dwelling. The exterior and footprint are unchanged since the 1941 Anderson alterations, and the interior has modern updates.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.64999-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/86/8912/28891286/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/06000382.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000382/e71e8c650d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000382/e71e8c650d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Teemu08","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_965_Castlegate_Court-Deerpath_Hill_Estates.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Teemu08</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_965_Castlegate_Court-Deerpath_Hill_Estates.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28891286","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_965_Castlegate_Court","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16892496"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/lake-county/house-at-965-castlegate-court-deerpath-hill-estates-06000382/"}
