The estate was subdivided in 1929-1930 by developer Henry K. Turnbull and architect Stanley D. Anderson into the Second Addition, Lake Forest's first multiple-use planned development. The house is the only Spanish Colonial house in the development and represents the large estates of the surrounding area.","narrative":"This stucco-over-brick house at 301 North Chiltern Drive in Lake Forest, Illinois, was designed by George Lyon Harvey in 1903 as a 14-room estate house for Frank Hibbard. Its exterior has a red terra cotta roof, wood bargeboard cornices, large porches and ornamental iron window grilles, while the interior is English Arts and Crafts, with quarter-sawn oak paneling and massive fireplaces. Hibbard tried to sell the 21-acre property through the 1920s. In 1929 developer Henry K. Turnbull bought it and, with architect Stanley D. Anderson, renovated the house and subdivided the land into the Second Addition of Deerpath Hill Estates. The plan combined an estate lot, 19 home sites and 20 planned town home lots around Deerpath Square. The Great Depression stopped the town homes from being built. The house is the only Spanish Colonial house in the development, and it was listed for its role in community planning and for its architecture. The period of significance runs from 1929 to 1961.","period_of_significance":"1929-1961","architect_builder":"Harvey, George Lyon, architect; Anderson, Stanley D., architect; Turnbull, Henry K., developer","architectural_style":"Spanish Colonial Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and still used as a single-family dwelling; exterior appears unchanged since the 1929 alterations, and the central interior rooms are unaltered.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.612754-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/90/8912/28891290/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/06000379.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000379/6ec4395729-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000379/6ec4395729-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Teemu08","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frank_Hibbard_Estate_House-Deerpath_Hill_Estates.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Teemu08</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frank_Hibbard_Estate_House-Deerpath_Hill_Estates.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28891290","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Hibbard_Estate_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5487240"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/lake-county/hibbard-frank-estate-house-deerpath-hill-estates-06000379/"}
