It was the only Stanley D. Anderson-designed house newly built in the Second Addition and the last house built in Deerpath Hill Estates before the Great Depression. It shows developer Henry K. Turnbull's and Anderson's practice of placing an Anderson-designed house at each development entrance.","narrative":"Built in 1930 at the southwest corner of Chiltern Drive and Deerpath in Lake Forest, this French Norman house was designed by architect Stanley D. Anderson for developer Henry K. Turnbull. It is the only Anderson-designed house newly built in the Second Addition of Deerpath Hill Estates, laid out on the former Frank Hibbard estate. The white-painted brick house has an L-shaped plan, a steeply pitched slate roof with flared eaves, wall dormers with casement windows, wrought iron balconies, and a conical-roofed stair tower at the angle of the L. Inside, a powder room tucked beneath the stair reflects an Anderson habit. It was the last house built in the development before the Great Depression and Turnbull's bankruptcy halted construction for about twenty years. Its location at an entrance followed the planners' practice of marking entrances with Anderson houses. The exterior remains unchanged, and the central rooms are largely intact.","period_of_significance":"1930-1961","architect_builder":"Anderson, Stanley D., architect; Turnbull, Henry K., developer","architectural_style":"Other: Norman Provincial (described in the text as French Norman)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and still a single dwelling; the exterior is unchanged from the 1930 design, the interior has been updated, and the rear porch was enclosed in 1997.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.69498-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/88/8912/28891288/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/06000378.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000378/fdf2f824a0-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000378/fdf2f824a0-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Teemu08","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_380_Chiltern_Drive-Deerpath_Hill_Estates.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Teemu08</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_380_Chiltern_Drive-Deerpath_Hill_Estates.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28891288","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_380_Chiltern_Drive","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16892495"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/lake-county/house-at-380-chiltern-drive-deerpath-hill-estates-06000378/"}
