It is built of unusually thick solid sandstone blocks that run through the walls, and has massive hewn timber framing. The brick wing on a sandstone foundation is also a rare combination.","narrative":"Built around 1844 on Center Ridge Road in Westlake, this small farmhouse combines sandstone and brick in the Greek Revival manner. The original 1½-story section is laid up in massive, hand-tooled sandstone blocks that extend clear through walls up to a foot and a half thick, resting on even larger blocks in the basement. Heavy hewn beams frame the floors and roof. A brick wing on a sandstone foundation, probably added around 1855, extends the plan into an L. The house was built for Austin and Roxanna Lilly, who came from Massachusetts in 1832, and later passed to their son Albertus, a farmer. It is significant as an example of fine stone craftsmanship in a region where sandstone houses are usually larger and more imposing. Only two sandstone Greek Revival farmhouses of this type survive in Westlake. The exterior form remains intact, though the property has lost acreage and suffered from years of vacancy.","period_of_significance":"1844-1855","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century: Greek Revival (Upright and Wing type)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Listed as vacant/not in use; the house was abandoned for a number of years, has deterioration in the roof and floors, and its exterior was chemically cleaned in 2004. It was deeded to the city of Westlake for use as a museum.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.57457-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/06000270.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000270/510371068b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000270/510371068b-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lilly_House_in_Westlake.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lilly_House_in_Westlake.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71987397","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137755657"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/cuyahoga-county/lilly-house-06000270/"}
