It was built in the early nineteenth century on an open tract of about ten acres.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is a locally significant and increasingly rare example of the modest Georgian-Federal transitional farmhouses once common in Person County. Its form, hall-and-parlor plan, pent room, and many original interior features remain intact. The two-room attic is unusually sophisticated and well preserved.","narrative":"Set on a hillock amid pastures and fields in northwestern Person County, this early-nineteenth-century farmhouse is a one-story-with-attic frame dwelling about thirty-two feet wide. It rests on a fieldstone foundation and has a side-gable metal roof, rubble-stone end chimneys with brick stacks, and a small original pent room beside the east chimney. Inside, the hall-and-parlor plan retains hand-planed wainscots, six-panel doors, a heavily molded hall mantel, and a corner winder stair with an unusual octagonal newel. The finished attic repeats the stair detailing and has a small paneled fireplace. A porch and rear shed room were added around 1920. The house has stood vacant for years, though its plan and many original details survive. Its builder is unknown, and deed research suggests, without proving, that Jacob Thomas may have built it. It was listed for its architectural value as a rare, well-preserved example of a once-common local house type.","period_of_significance":"First quarter of nineteenth century","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian; Federal (transitional Georgian-Federal)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Vacant for many years; condition ranges from fair to good, and the owners plan to restore it to its original appearance.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:53.494711-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/67/7217/47721767/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/06000229.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000229/9d2c9f99a9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/06000229/9d2c9f99a9-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_on_Wagstaff_Farm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_on_Wagstaff_Farm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47721767","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_on_Wagstaff_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19874368"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/person-county/house-on-wagstaff-farm-06000229/"}
