Green, with later rear additions and three contributing outbuildings.","why_significant":"The nomination cites Civil War use as a field hospital and a role in Dahlgren's Raid in March 1864 (Criterion A). It also cites the association with Richmond businessman Benjamin W. Green (Criterion B). It is described as a rare example of late Federal residential architecture in the West End, whose later alterations reflect changing interpretations of the Federal style (Criterion C).","narrative":"Huntley, also known as Green's Farm and Roselawn, is a red brick house on Three Chopt Road in Richmond's West End. Benjamin W. Green, a speculator with interests in coal, real estate and textiles, built it between 1843 and 1846. It has a hipped slate roof, end chimneys, a central widow's walk and an English basement. During the Civil War it served as a field hospital and saw some action during Dahlgren's Raid in March 1864. After years of disrepair, Col. John W. Gordon bought it in 1906, added a rear wing and porches, and laid out a formal garden. Albert Pollard bought it in 1935, removed the porches and installed Federal-era paneling and mantels. A further addition followed around 1977. The original plan, stair, plaster moldings and wide plank floors survive, along with a kitchen, well house and ice house. The property was listed for its wartime role, its link to Green, and its late Federal architecture.","period_of_significance":"1843-1955","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late Federal","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Currently in use as a single dwelling; the original core retains considerable integrity despite later additions.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:03.311785-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/25/6829/41682925/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/05001228.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05001228/2ca1991595-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05001228/2ca1991595-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"James Shelton32","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Greens_Farm_-_Huntly.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">James Shelton32</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Greens_Farm_-_Huntly.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/41682925","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green%27s_Farm_(Huntley)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15637917"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/virginia/richmond/greens-farm-huntley-05001228/"}
